The 4th of March, 2022 reports indicated there was Warner Bros. was actively creating I Am Legend 2. A positive signal for those who loved I Am Legend the very first time, I Am Legend screenwriter Akiva Goldsman has returned to write the script. The sequel in the wake of I Am Legend was originally set to be a prequel with Smith and a rumored cast of many years following the popularity of the film however it didn’t come out. There isn’t any confirmation at the moment whether Director Francis Lawrence will also be returning. Since no director agreement has been signed yet.

However it was mentioned in the Deadlineinterview where writer Akiva Goldsman explained the story’s new elements. He said that the sequel was fast-tracked in his latest first-look agreement in conjunction with Warner Bros. This could indicate that the announcement of a release date isn’t too far off.

Will Smith will be returning to the character of Robert Neville in I Am Legend,and the revelation that the alternate version of I Am Legendending was the inspiration for the sequel indicates that Smith’s appearance won’t be in flashbacks or footage from Neville’s experiments logs. Smith was a standout performance in the film’s first installment in which he was the sole person to appear on screen. Creed star Michael B. Jordan was also confirmed as a part of the I Am Legend 2 team, but there is no confirmation about what character he’ll be playing. It’s also not known whether Neville’s other survivors, Anna (Alice Braga) and Ethan (Charlie Tahan) will be returning too.
I Am Legend 2 Story Details
There have been a lot of speculations about I Am Legend 2, Akiva Goldsman has provided a lot of information regarding the sequel. In an interview with Deadline,he confirmed that I Am Legend 2 will take place years after the events in the first film, indicating some major adjustments to the post-apocalyptic setting. The actor also said that the sequel will not deal of the ending from the first film in the film, in which Neville sacrifices himself in order to kill mutants and let Anna as well as Ethan escape. The sequel instead will follow the alternative ending that is more like what was in the I Am Legend book.
In the final scene I Am Legend 2will follow. Neville realizes that the infected aren’t trying to take him down, but to help an individualthe one infected Neville who was captured as an experiment subject. Neville then realizes that they view him as a monster.
Also in the interview Goldsman has also mentioned. The Last of Us as an important source of basis in the sequel. He acknowledged that the story was one he wanted to explore the post-apocalyptic landscape following the emergence of nature again. He also suggested that the tale would be set at New York City just as I Am Legend did in.
